Robin Ševčík hitting High Tatras
Where is the snow?
I'm going to ski in Tatras! What?! There is still snow? This was perhaps the reaction of everyone when it came to what I’m gonna do in the Tatras. The idea of skiing in June in our country already in itself is quite absurd, and not mentioning this crappy winter.
Around the middle of May, my friend Radim texted me, the newest info from Viktor Beránekf rom the Rysy that the snow was falling and the wind was blowing in the right direction. A few days of intensive wind and snowfall in the area of Rysy created better conditions than for the whole winter. Perhaps the third farewell to winter? Well why not! Just more motivation to study more, pass the exams and go.
June 5'm done with school and immediately call directly to Viktor for info on how it looks above. On Tuesday was snowing again! So, yes, I’m contactingmy friend Eleand we’re leaving! At lastwe're going on Sunday morning, for being the cottage to crowded through the weekend. Arriving to the Popradské around eleven and leaving our car playing on sherpas with our extra backpacks towards Rysy directionin the reallyhot weather. A few months doing nothing only studying leaves its cost during the hike. That bit of an understatement of weight of our backpacks with skis and in addition a camera, tripod, additional equipment or water we feel every step. Finally, we almost crawl to the cottage, when a part from Žabí pleas were skinning up can, but when we get to the chains we have to switch of the skis again. After coming to the cottage we have only energy to take some beer and some photo stuff then we’re heading to the Rysy so we can catch some sundown at least. Relaxing, enjoying the mountains, perfect sundown and looking forward to the next day.
The next day we plan to initially get up around 5 am and to ascend right away on Vaha, where you can supposedly ski down to the Zmrzlé lake. Although the alarm is ringing, and some enthusiasts have raised up around four, but from yesterday, we are still so tired that we rather lay back and take a nap. The following is a chilled breakfast, walk under the Ostra into saddle, where we drink another beer and enjoying the very last bites of white spots. Dragging with us skis were skiing a little face down, but about noon it's really been a total slop. The rest of the day at a style bikini, relax and consultation, and planning where in the morning we will go. In the evening we pack photo stuff but also skis and aim towards Rysy. Enjoyin and taking pictures of another sundown directly from theRysy. Then we are waiting for the stars, take pictures of the night sky, even though it is unfortunately nearly full moon and then heading downfrom Vahawith head lamps.
Tuesday day of departure cheered up and already at five in the morning we ascendto the Vaha. Poor Ela has to take photos of my ride from Vaha to Zmrzle lake. Snow is pretty soft due to the heat, but it still holds. In short, a pleasant summer firn-skiing! The following is a exhausting hike up. Then I’m deciding whetherto go running with skis on the backpack on the way to the Vysoka in the wall of a Tažky shield. During the climb I have some trouble not being able to move properly with my skis on the back, where I somehow can not find the stone hotplates. Finally, to tread the straight wall (snow) up in low boots without impregnation (really great experience), at least it will be well deserved! Ela is in place and I after proper rest, I choose my line, so I got a pretty part of the three rock step and made a beautiful turnso I could spray some snow on them for a photo. Instead of two turns and spraying the snow, I lost my balance in the very first turns just above the rocks. I cannotstop and heading on the rocks sliding on my ass. The first thoughts when I fall, when the valleys beautifully spread rubbing against the rock that the skis can go to the garbage. After I can not even on the next rockIm rolling over my head (not that the crash remember, but Ela saw it beautifully from the opposite hill from first hand), I thinking now I have a real problem. Fortunately, I maintain a presence of mind I’m managing to stop (the binding luckily didn't loose) before the most about a twelve-meter threshold. For a moment I’m just laying on the snow, I do not understand what is happening. The head is spinning, but eventually I get up and I find that I’m fine. Alone I come down to the hut where waiting for me about twelve startled observers that are frightened fromthat scary noise of sliding skis on the rock. Informs me that he wanted to call a helicopter, no fortunately was not necessary. :) From the fall I made it whole and only had lost my pole, which is left in the mountains. The following is a scolding from Victor, Ela and all around. Next is packing up and going down with the backpacks which are againreally heavy. During the day I’m projecting the fall all over again….
I guess this was really the last farewell to the snow this season. A few days after the fall, I was thinking I have enough of skiing for now. But right now, within just three weeks slowly starting to look out for the winter, only half a year.. But now enjoy the summer everyone!
P. S. Skis are just fine, but mainly I highlight the clothes I got from Tilak. The fact that they are doing world-class, quality stuff, I know for some time. Now, however, I can verify that what I say so gladly about my jacket and pants Evolution and their processing of Goretex-Pro material is true. And the fact that this material is so well-made and durable that it can literally roll over rocks. :) I'm slidingmy ass and elbows at a decent speed on the rock (which was as asand paper - I did not have gloves hands hurt a lot) a few meters away and the pants are just tiny hints of the direction in which I actually slipped.
