Laax before Christmas
Laax before Christmas
Right before Christmas (20. – 21.12) we decided to visit the Swiss resort Laax, because it was basically the closest resort with dense snow (50 cm below, 150 above). After millions of changes, we chose a minimized variation, which was three people, two days. The distance between Benecko (CZ) and Laax is equal to 816 km, or less than 8 hours leisurely driving through Prague (680 km), Munich, Bregenz and Chur. My lower left eight sought little early-morning break Landeskrankenhaus Bregenz. And so we were down under the cab on time. Outdoor temperature was below -17 pleasant, on top of the glacier -25.
Resort is situated at an altitude of 1100 - 3018 meters. Glacier Vorab with a small park is open from mid-October. Two days of visits this year and the previous two years are unable to draw up a detailed description, so at least briefly.
The lift is possible to catch in the villages of Laax, Flims and Falera. We boarded in Laax. Right below the big jumbo, which runs on Crap Sogn Gion (2228 m). There are “one million” bc treeskiing spots and opportunities. The more right, the denser forest. Watch the orientation, so that you do not go deeper to the right side and therefore the valley beyond. While this gives "go" back to the cabin, but it is realy time consuming trip, which before this year's Christmas took us over two hours and costs our last power. This is the first freeride area.
During the way to the top of the glacier Vorab you can traverse or slightly hike the ridge. Then the there is an offer a choice in one of the two valleys. Right leads to the bottom station to double chair lift Alps Ruschein, left one, then back to the cabin to glacier. This is our second freeride zone.
The third area is probably the largest, spread over the mountain La Sial (2810 m). I divided it into two halves. Left offers a wide and very steep plains. If
there is from 10cm to 15cm of a new pow, its a heaven to be there. The right half of it offers super wide corridors beneath the mountain jumbo Grauberg (2228 m). Starts rock ledge, which can either go around or get there roughly in half (to be but more than the snow during our visit). Then followed a sharp broad plains, rocks and forest.
The fourth area is the mountain Cassons (2765 m) in the full corner of the ski resort. It is a huge wiiide field, led by tiny shuttle lift and which is neither a marked ski slope. (If the lift is running, it has to be there as soon as possible, then there is a great crowd of people.) This was part of the resort but not when one of my visit, so I can only envy. It offers more than 1,300m vertical distance and minimum of people. Hiking it is almost nonsense.
These are the four areas that I recommend. A longer visit would certainly give me to know the other places. But bc or treeskiing here can do almost unlimited, anywhere. And with a great vertical distance. About the only negative aspect is the flatness of the bottom part of the resort, which means to roll out lifts the lowermost slopes (road), sometimes several kilometers, and hence a longer time spent in the chairlift. But these are mostly all fast, so you can give at least a little rest to your feet.
