Another interview, this time with Miro Matus. A Slovakia rider who despite of serious injury don't give it up, but continues to his passion in freeskiing.

Hi bro so, firstly can you start with introducing yourself like where do you come from, how old are you etc.?

OK ... well I was born about a year after the nuclear reactor exploded at Chernobyl, which probably reflected in my brain. This means I am 23 years and live in the beautiful region on the northern sides of Small Fatra in village Zazriva not so far from Vratna ski resort. Life here is just amazing except of to much drinking ... but on the other hand it’s very easy to get use to, like everywhere else: D.

How long do you ski and who or what brought you to freeskiing?

Actually I ski since I started to walk in childhood where I was led by my father. Zazriva has an excellent conditions for skiing and finally for freeskiing. I don’t know, I just somehow ski those hills and because of no evidence of snow cats there was always no groomed ski slopes so I was actually doing freeride. Thus I  grew a love to this sport until it came to today's situation which is close to fanaticism ... but I guess you certainly know that coz anyone who loves freeskiing know.

Your favorite resorts?

Vratna, Jasna, Lomnické saddle, Kozinec ...  I don’t count the Alps resorts among my favorite since I don’t have any needs to visit them more often.

Since the freeriding is quite costly, how all of us already know: D, do you have any sponsor support?

It is difficult when you must pay the entire gear just you, so of course I had the same problem. In last season I was lucky, thanks to people from Völkl. I hope that it will be longer relationship with this brand. I have developed a sincere relationship. They produce top-quality products from the skies over the poles and backpacks to good winter clothes. Last season I rode on Katana and Gotamy and this year should come brand new powder ski KURO which I am looking forward to. Völkl, for I am extremely grateful for what they did for me and hope will do, especially when I am aware that the Slovak market is not easy.

Who do you mostly ski and shooting picture with?

Wlado Papala ... he made me what I am right now in freeskiing. Taught me many things and indeed, he also pushed me into freeskiing community, just as I also directed me to the correct embrace to the sport.

Do you have any pictures? If so where can be seen?

For sure there are! Majority of my shots are in Wlado’s camera and can be seen at www.3limits.sk. For two years since we ride together (I mean whole grew, not just me), there are plenty of pics so there you can find a lot.

Do you have any freeride experience which fulfill yourself and would like to share it with us?

Easy answer ... every contact of my skies with the snow and me on them is just amazing. Definitely I should say when I am on them coz of the state what happened in Jasna adrenaline 2010th.

Now we come across to one negative topic. Since most people had heard of the mega drop that you did  on Jasna adrenaline, how are you doing with you injury which you caused there?

Let me make this straight to everybody. I uncomfortable broke my tibia bone while I was training jumps into the foam in Vratna previous summer. God is my witness that this was the last time I tried to compete with freestyle riders.

Thus it ended with cluster fracture of tibia with 40 cm metal in my leg. I knew that the whole coming winter season is scrued until Andrejka Kobrtková took me into Prague in November to see a physiotherapist. He gave me advice and exercises how to quickly start up and train my leg. One month later I was back in business riding fresh pow in Vratna which was unbelievable for me.... I was jumping and almost riding on full throttle, so I decided to tray Jasna adrenaline. Well it ended as it ended and I was barely able to crawl away from the cliff. Finally, the fracture was in the same place as it was in the summer and as a bonus crack next to screw which of course came up a little. This was followed by a doctor visit, who has by the way a lot of bullshit words and don’t forget to repeat me that each visit ... so he prescribed me next surgery on which I forgot to come, so they gave me gypsum after all. Three months later I jump on the bike and skate and do everything like I used to except rock climbing. It still hurts but I believe that in the winter I will be fully recovered and If not the joy of skiing will cover the pain, as it was in last year.

Do you have any plans or objectives for further seasons?

Do not think about it ... I only wish to have a season without injuries, I enjoyed them enough already. Some competitions  may be, but the most important is to ride, ride and ride ... what will come will come, my favorite word is – will see ...

On your Facebook, I read that your God is Seth Morrison: D, what would say about that, it's your idol?

Pchecheche, but definitely is a legend and an icon in freeskiing, but I wrote it purely as a recession. I don’t take facebook seriously and write there a lot of bullshit, which I don’t think and had no intention of ever ... want to know who is my ski idol? Seth Morrison, Kaj Zackrisson, Henrik Windstedt, Viktor Galuska, Krtek , you and many more ... no I'm just kidding. I think each skier has something special, everybody has their own style and something to admire ... on every good (!) skier ...

Do you do another sport with similar enthusiasm like skiing?

bike, before injury I was climbing but now I quit, hopefully I’ll start soon again ... and many other things I enjoy in the Slovak such as handball in Zazriva pub and this year I am completely absorbed by riding Longboard ... it's great fun. And I would like to start the bike downhill, but only if someone manages to gave me a bike.

Thanks bro from anther mo for interview! We all wish you fast recovery and health.

Thanks too, the health I will definitely need and I wish everyone the same. Howgh: D
