ISPO 2012
lost in the snow business
As every year, we headed to the exhibition which was was held at the Munich, ISPO. Since 29 January to 1st February came here over 800 exhibitors from all around the world to show their innovations for the upcoming season. We could not miss this big event and we are bringing you some of our impressions from a visit to ISPO 2012.
We arrived to Munich at Saturday evening, day before ISPO itself. We had a day of skiing at Krippenstein and were desperately trying to find accommodation at an affordable price. Finally ended with a classic at the parking lot. Our balance: Skoda Fabia, 3 people, 1 sleeping bag. Fortunately, we were too tired so we overslept the inconvenience and we were ready to go the next morning to visit the ISPO.
Our plan was to spend only one day here, which of course is not enough to carefully review all of the 16 pavilions. But they are clearly divided by sports and brands of winter industry, so you can easily find each of them - in our case it's skiing and snowboarding. Stands of different brands are very different. Sometimes it's corner with an area of few square meters sometimes it is a big castle. Of course there is plenty of promotional materials, refreshments and celebrities from the sports world that came to support their brand. His snowboards came here to show freeride star Jeremy Jones. A manufacturer of hats and all kinds of functional underwear Kask, this year introduced a full line-up - Kaj Zackrisson, and Sverre Liliequist. At their stand was also seen Stian Hagen.
And finally, the news itself - its signature series will finally see Sean Petit at K2 skis with skis Pettitor and Sage C. Alosa with Atomic - Automatic. Other promodel by Sammy Carlson developed in cooperation with the Apo skis. A surprise for me was increased number of new bindings presented by Scott, Atomic and Salomon. With models Tracker and the Guardian. After examining the bindings we found out that all of them are the same only with different color and brand. Tyrolia bindings came with model Adrenalin, which will most likely appear in the future under the brands Head and 4FRNT. There were many more news of course, but those sticked in my mind the most. News also took place in the world of sponsorship. Probably the most interesting is the transfer of Candide Thovex to Faction skies.
A new Czech freeski ski brand Ymli was introduced at ISPO for the first time. With its expanded portfolio of Myth park ski model. The entire collection in my view was very coherent mainly in design. The processing and the quality of the collection suggests that the market is entered by a strong brand and portfolio of high quality skis.
Its part had manufacturers of avalanche equipment such as Arva, Snow Pulse or ABS. A novelty is that the company has developed a new Snow Pulse backpack in collaboration with Scott. This backpack is composed with removable Snow Pulse system, which will be inserted only for a powder trip. More information will bring in a separate article during the season.
