No hike No ride - Swiss Arosa
Last season, as usual, we appeared with Pepa Bernatek in Swiss Arosa. Previous winter I have found there several tops that I had planned to humble. So we had no other choice then to go for them. I do not want to breaking down what it was a peaceful trip but rather give you some information on the path to those who would like to get a little pow fun in Arosa.

Pitrs with Hasak (
www.snowcamp.cz
) left us, as ussual, to stay in their LTB Salebra boardinghouse and hike up around to local big moutain area.
After a long summer break we needed a little start and refresh the basic rules of motion in backcountry terrain. For this purpose , we chose Schwarzhorn. It is not nothing special but the hill every time I left a gondola on the top Wissehornu where it is perfect vision, I imagined how we could improve the hill by making some nice turns on his face.
Availability the Schwarzehorn of Arosa is quite good. You have to get into the top left corner of the Arosa alpine resort. Walk over ridge, ride to the descend into the valley and then run straight the top. The only catch is that you must get the same way back. It was quite fun to listen Pepa´s cursing the last two hours before we got back to Arosa.
Hiking to the top of the Schwarzehorn is not so hard. The only feasible way is the gradual ridge, which was at that time pretty froze. It didn’t take us a lot of time. I think that in less than 4 hours we were on top, where to our disappointment was already a bunch of skiers who had arrived only a few hundred meters distant ski center Lenzerheide. Downhill was good but quite short. Anyway, we have enrolled for a few days to the front face of the mountain. :)
Our next aim became Šajshorn (Tiejer Flue 2781 m). This peak is slightly higher than Schwarzhorn. It is located right between Arosa and Davos so during the hike to the top you have got a super cool views of both valleys. Peak I chose for his majesty over the entire valley. Way up took us less than seven hours and the riding part somewhere around an hour and a half.
All the way we would be unable to imagine without snowshoes, and also in the last section we used the rope and ice axes, because the snow after which we performed the most rapid passages looked really unstable. Apparently here this face has not been hiked many times. A few other neighboring peaks could be chosen for freeride and it also take much less time and forces. Anyway, we were really surprised by Šajshorn . The top section was quite froze, but a hundred meters below began pure freeride porn, which perhaps cannot be even described.
Weather was nice for a couple of following days and give us an opportunity to ride and fully document this peak. Thanks to this we chose our lines one day before we rode them. After the first riding passage , we enjoyed by ourselves, we went together. This part was followed by an open snow field with rocks bounded from the left side. (view from the top) Then we had to find a path between the rocks at the bottom of the mountain, because we did not read too much from the photos of the peak, we were really looking for a way through. Then just long snow fields and trees were waiting for us, which drove us to Liziruty where we got hitched without a problem up to the house. Anyway, I recommned to you keep your ride track in left part in the woods to hold more to the left of the valley, because it will exit out of super luxurious way full of snow packs and technical passages. But it could also surprise quite a few of the deep gorge, which are here as well.
So several word for the end- This hike wasn’t a part of the shortest ones, but it worths anyway. And what could freerider pray more than take the first pow tracks on the face with his good friend. Next day we packed up our backpacks and we left the LTB house during the night with head lamps for a next few days in backcountry. Every day we got a blue sky with a tons of pow. So we were doing nothing else then freeriding and shootnig some pics (e.g. here).
