Arctix Tamok FWQ vol.2
Epic freeride on the ende of the World - 2nd part
Our accomodation is a cool, huge hangar remained after soldiers ( whole area is a military space – once we had to delayed our flight and wait because the army was occupating an air – space...) The hangar is really stylish and comfortable. We lived there approx. 40 freeriders alltogetrher in one room...! Most of them are Scandinavians, than many other nations. There was for example Anne – Flore Marxer – Freeride World tour champion on board!
2nd Day: It’s snowing out! We are skinning for some tree run… The possibilities are endless here! We would use a car for the transports bellow further mountains. A snowmobile is the key from the heaven! A polar day is comming so we can skiing till 7pm.
3rd Day: Looks similar so after a proper brunch we mix some cat skiing and hiking. But suddenly after 4pm the skyes clears out, so it’s heli time again! We are heading up for the most marvelous powder junking! We skied a beautifull line during the sunset… Don’t get me wrong – I am not a gay.
4th Day: The two stars FWQ competition is happening today. We are going to make 3 runs. Warm up, race line and line back home. The race face looks monumentally. As ussual, it’s bigger than we are used to… After a fireworks show from an avalanche expert in Norwegian army we are ready to go. I choosed my line easy enought to ride it fluently. After the first drop I’m landing further than I have expected, so I miss the 2nd, most important in my line, which confuses me a little… Than I’m traversing a little bit above a rocks to find my drops and ripping down. Despite my incomplete satisfaction, I’m 5th (out of 14). The winning line performed by Erik Lundstrom looked amazingly… Pleasure to watch! Lucie no matter she wasn’t actually competing won 1st place! A lovely day was topped by a long descend back home. Satisfaction after action…
5th Day: It’s warming up and cloudy… Down day and proper chill out! Lucie is making one hat after another.
6th Day: The same. Our last day here! At the evening we are heading to the airport because our flight departs early morning… We stored our stuff there and went sight seeing to Tromso. Cool city indeed! Basically on the island in a fjord. App. 60 thous. people, a ski resort, bunch of rad pubs or cofees… Seems like western! I’m meeting a snus… Totally different dimension… Ending up in Rock cafe Bla till the 2am, than night at the airport… So our actix adventure is over. I’m already looking forward to the comeback!
Big thanks to the organizators – JJ Henttonen and Aadne Olsrud for making it happen!
All together it costed me app. 1200e. Norway is not a cheap country… But 85e per a flight with a heli is fair enough. A very sad news came recently - Erik Lundstrom died on Easter Saturday in an avalanche accident in Norway. Thanks for the memories mate! Rest in peace and see you!
