CGC Jasna Adrenalin
how it was?
The fact that Jasná Adrenaline 2013 will take place, I received sometime before Christmas last year. At that time I was still not sure if I'll go or not. For this season I have decided to take some of FWQ races. I created an account on FWQ sites, paid 25 Euro license, hoping that I can ride some of the FWQ events in Austria. When the registration openned for the first race, my enthusiasm dropped down. There is a lot of registered riders and logging manner like "send 80Eur to us and we might choose you" totally discouraged myself. I understand the simplest criterion for selecting the number of competitors FWQ races in the past and FWQ ranking, but how someone new will get into it? So I decided to not risk 80 Eur for which I could ride some pow elsewhere in Europe.
So I ended up with "just" one clear event and one more less real race in Sweden near Narvik, whose name I do not remember now. Sweden was interesting me, but entrance fee was expensive and the distance and the fact that services in Sweden are also expensive totally simplified my decision.
Weather forecast for Jasna resort was looking very solid, and I therefore signed up and looking forward to smell the racing atmosphere after almost a year. Jasna Adrenalin was held by Slovaks this year together with the Polish guys, who made the race official Championship of Poland under the name Tatra Freeride Open (last year had the same thing in Heiligenblut, Austria, where I also raced). This meant a considerable bigger amount of riders and sponsors from the Polish side. Jasna Adrenalin is not a part FWQ event this year and interest was not as great as in previous years. It's all about the money, because in order to race under the name FWQ, the organizers have put together a prize money worth at least 5000 Euros!! Sad. Polish guys therefore enrolled on their own site and the rest of the riders registered for www.freeride.sk . I must say that riders from Poland were way more than the others.
Race officially began on Wednesday, 27th of February. Riders meeting at 19:00. We went with my brother at 3:00 in the morning, therefore, to take some pictures and gather some info sbout the face for competition in its current form. Directions from South Bohemia was about 550 km. When we arrived and went up under Chopok, we were a little disappointed by snow conditions. We waited hard snow, but not ice. Surface was very close to the concrete. On the other hand, we were here for the first time and the local hills enchanted us. During powder days there must be a paradise for freeriders. Such steep and rugged hills - amazing. So we managed to shoot competition face and we are a little on the other side. We finished early to have a proper rest.
Evening at the meeting was quite a rush when registering riders, luckily we arrived on time and we could go to bed early. Registration was separately for Polish and other riders. Categories were classically ski men/women and snowboard men / women, but most riders were skiers.
Thursday qualifying meeting began at 9:00 riders, organizers and judges. The start was 10:00 and ranking category was as follows: ski men -> women ski -> snb men -> snb women. Weather was amazing. Personally, I went around as the 8th or 9 in order. Until the last moment I wondered if something to jump or bet on a clean and smooth ride. Per line I had chosen so I could really decide until the last minute, in the sense of the terrain. Eventually won the safer option, which I regretted at the end.
On my journey I was quite embarrassed, I was tense, if it will be enough without jumping to get to the finals or not . We got the results at 7pm. Finally they hung it up about an hour later and there it was 5th place for me. Advanced skiers 13 and each additional category 4, ie. total of 25 riders had to fight in the finals. That evening I again picked up line and counted with a one or two cliffs. I could not wait for the finals.
Morning weather did not look so well. Hill was in a fog. We went upstairs. Just before the final it began to look like the weather will get better and bright windows leave at least skiers. Eventually left 4 competitors and the race was finally canceled with the fact that the results are valid from the qualification.
Ski category Men won Polish rider Philip Matejko, Ski Women was dominated by the Slovakian Katarina Lehocka in the category Men SNB took the first place experienced guy from Czech, Petr Novák, and Paulina Nowik was the best among snowboard girls
I have to say that overall Jasna Adrenalin 2013 was a clear and decently organized. The organizers are grateful for the safe organization of the contest.
